RE: WCS 1.85b Released

what else is running on that machine?
if you're using bittorrent try throttling the client back a little...

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

Ok this is actually funny.

Bide removed ping timeout in WCS 1.8.5 so as to make it better, and instead it makes users "freeze" as the ping timeout does not "boot" them. It keeps them in room even though they cannot do anything?!? Seems stupid to me.

And i also notice i think you have the character set, set wrongly, you need is set to US-ASCII otherwise Ascii names wont show correctly!!!

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

I meant, user with [C5] is not in room since days, but wcs displays he is not reachable... probably it's a neverending loop...

Keep alives prevent you to have ghost users. Sometimes, the client disconnect but the server think the client is still connected... then you have a ghost user in your room.

I don't recommand you to remove the keep alive feature.

How do I allow /setcolour commands?, How do I block people from sending other rooms? If a room was to be written they will be kicked.

You need to use a bot to do either of these with wcs, with /setcolour sent to the bot as a custom command & the bot then processing to /setformat for the user the script for metis to do this isn't all that simple..

to boot on seeing a roomname again is a case of scripting a bot to recognise it as being a roomname, & then issue the cmd to boot them, in both cases the bot must be admin, & again, processing a random post such that the bot can distingiush a roomname from a username or random chatter isn't that simple.. to do so reliably is hellishly complex.

to give you a start on one basic approach (the most reliable i can think of) you'd have the bot parse every post & check for 12 digits of hex preceeded by an underscore anywhere within the post, which can be done with metis.. but have fun doing it.. i started on such a command once & gave it up as too much trouble, far simpler to have some live admins present.

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

These functions as such are not features of WCS

You can either block words, which will prevent users posting messages containing them in your config

Code:
// blocked words list - people cant say these things :-D
//(not case sensitive Bad is the same as baD)
Block=badword
Block=badword2

or use a bot (Metis for example, logged in as admin) to kick them in response to such words

This is a simple command for metis you would add the following either in mxc.xml or one of your include files if you have them

Code:
<command>
<in>badword</in>
<in>swearword</in>
//as many other <in>word</in> lines as you need...
<out>/kick %NAME%</out>
</command>

To set a user's colour you use the /setformat command, which allows you to set all sorts of aspects of their appearance in the room, besides just setting colour of text, giving everyone access to this is a bad idea... unless you like idiots changing your name.. & those of your regs.. & leaving you unable to type anything but the one line they decided....

WCS doesn't natively have a /setcolour command.. you can make one which will be directed to an admin (usually a bot for custom commands), the BOT would then see /setcolour n & would respond using the /setformat command, however, checking that what comes after /setcolour is either a valid number or colour code, is more complex than the autokick example, also metis has a number of bugs which have to be worked around in order for it to be able to post the /setformat response with the required syntax.. it can be done.. but the question would be better asked on a Metis help forum.. or you can use a very old metis version (2.1 or earlier) which doesn't have the bug...

All of which is beyond the scope of WCS config help & would be better asked on a Metis help forum

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

Hmm, as far as I can see this version wiped out my good config and didn't work too well for me. I have reverted to 1.8.3 which works just as fine as it always did.

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

1.8.3 is not really advisable since it has been flagged up that there are several large bugs which can be exploited by users to crash the server and room.

These bugs have been fixed in other servers and WCS mods.

BB, what is the one specific exploit? And is the workaround something that can put into the room config?

There are actually several bugs, perhaps if you come find me i can explain them to you save telling the entire world how to go about causing chaos on winmx?

RE: WCS 1.85b Released

WCS 1.85B as been ready for download for a long time now. No information on when new releases are coming or any ideas on what's going on in the background.

Is WCS Still in production or have the coders behind it decided to call it a day.

Personally i think KM should come back, at least he got work done. I will admit he took his time but at least something came of it. I think that WCS could still go a long way, it just needs someone who will take it there.
